Cosmetic dentistry is the term used for a range of procedures that have been designed to improve the appearance of your teeth and smile. The procedures include treatments to straighten and repair teeth and also reshape and lighten teeth. Our cosmetic treatments include porcelain veneers, crowns, bridges, tooth-coloured fillings, implants and tooth whitening.
We offer a wide range of cosmetic dentistry to help improve your teeth and smile. We can work to give you a smile makeover, however the extent of the work involved is totally down to you and what you are looking to improve. You may wish for a shiny white smile using bleach techniques, or a full makeover using bright white porcelain veneers. Or you could be looking for a more general enhancement with the replacement of your dark metal fillings with matching tooth coloured versions.
Smile makeover & tooth whitening
Tooth whitening and bleaching treatments are designed to enhance the colour of your natural teeth without the need for invasive procedures such as fillings, veneers or crowns. Tooth whitening is safe and the change is long lasting. With undamaged and healthy teeth the treatment can just be to make them look brighter, but if your teeth are discoloured, full of fillings, crowns or veneered, then treatment can be used alongside restorative procedures to achieve the best long lasting results. As we improve the colour of your teeth and lighten them dark fillings will inevitably become more obvious, so you may wish to discuss follow up restorative treatments to rectify this.
A porcelain veneer is a thin layer of tooth-coloured ceramic that we cement onto your tooth’s surface. Veneers improve the look of stained or chipped teeth and protect damaged or worn surfaces. Porcelain veneers can also be used to improve the alignment or appearance of crooked, small or unevenly spaced teeth. The look of your teeth can be altered with minimal tooth preparation and the veneers can in many cases be fitted with the use of little or no local aesthetic.
The strongest and longest lasting material for fillings is the silver / grey amalgam material, however it’s appearance is often perceived to be unattractive, and there have been some concerns about possible health risks. White fillings are a popular alternative to amalgam fillings, and advances in new dental materials mean it’s now much easier to find a perfect match for the shade of any given tooth. Once a tooth is restored with a new white filling it’s usually impossible to see whether it’s been filled at all.
Dental implants have now become one of the must have treatments for people with missing, crumbling teeth, or severe periodontal disease. Implants appear and perform like natural teeth because they’re anchored in place within the jawbone, unlike removable dentures they don’t move around in the mouth. Implants don’t affect neighbouring healthy teeth, they’re long lasting and once implanted into your jawbone they simulate the roots of pre-existing teeth. Replacement teeth are then restored on to the implant giving you a fantastic smile.
